About this continuing education program

Every breathwork facilitator knows this moment: The breath has done its work, and something has been revealed – a tremor in the hands, a word that won’t quite take shape, a grief that seems older than the person currently experiencing it. What happens next depends less on the technique than on the quality of presence in the room.

This five-day training program is dedicated to this very moment. Inspired by Ron Kurtz’s Hakomi method – a mindfulness-based, body-centered approach rooted in loving presence, nonviolence, and trust in each person’s own organic wisdom – Trevor Wyllthawk, a renowned breathwork teacher from Vancouver, combines a finely tuned somatic-psychotherapeutic process and the associated skills with the inspiring possibilities that naturally unfold during the potentially profound journeys initiated by transpersonal breathwork.

The first focus is on the breath journey itself: You’ll learn to perceive what is alive within the person you’re with and to speak to people in an extraordinary state of consciousness using words that are simple enough to reach them there. The second focus is on dialogue: applying the same principles – without breathwork – in the slower, quieter space of conversation. Together, these two approaches provide a way to guide people that will support you in ceremonies, individual sessions, and the subsequent integration discussions.

This is not a new method intended to replace what you already know. Rather, it is about fine-tuning your perception, which expands your ability to incorporate more possibilities in light of your clients’ unique complexity. For graduates of the Sacred Ways Transformational Guide & Breathwork Teacher Training, this approach naturally complements the Naikando Method® – serving as a guide for that moment when the music fades, the last note dies away, and a person opens their eyes to encounter another humble, loving person. Graduates of other breathwork schools that advocate a trauma-sensitive approach are also welcome.

How We Work

The days will alternate between learning, exploring the course content together, live demonstrations, and plenty of guided practice. You’ll lead and participate in breathwork sessions, practice the dialogue-based process in pairs and small groups, and receive direct, supportive feedback.

In line with a trauma-informed approach, each day includes sessions designed to build resilience and regulate the nervous system. The pace supports both the processing of what you’ve learned and your personal journey. Intensive practice alternates with grounding, rest, and integration so that what you’ve learned can settle into your body, rather than overwhelming you.

About two weeks after the training session, there will be a live online integration call. The date and time will be announced at a later date.

What You’ll Explore

  • Loving Presence: Your own state as the foundation from which every intervention arises
  • Perception and Tracking: Reading the subtle language of the body, breath, voice, and facial expressions – in your clients, in yourself, and in the space between you
  • Connective statements and affirmations: short, precise words that allow a person to feel seen without being taken out of their experience
  • In-depth questions: Encouraging prompts that support the spontaneous, intelligent, and dynamic process rather than directing it
  • Guiding extraordinary states of consciousness: Methods for inducing various extraordinary states of consciousness, as well as competent facilitation through clear session guidance, therapeutic affirmations, and clients’ self-descriptions during the therapeutic process and the inner journey
  • Small mindfulness experiments: offering a word, a gesture, an action, or an image, and exploring together what it triggers – to best support the process of transformation
  • Core beliefs and the stories the body tells: How early formative experiences live on in posture, breathing, and expectations, and how this important material can be mindfully explored both within and outside of breathwork practice
  • Imaginative and somatic experiments in dialogue: Helping clients reexamine their relationships with aspects of themselves, with other people, and with the stories of their lives
  • Strengthening resources: Using specific techniques and forms of support to help clients reach a more resilient state in which difficult memories can be processed and integrated
  • The course of a session: A clear and cohesive process map – from initial contact through deepening to transformation and integration
